General Research Interests

As a research assistant for Dr. Cathy Busby (no relation), I've been working at the University of Arizona and at UCSB doing heavy mineral separation and dating detrital zircons using a Laser-Ablation Multicollector Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometer. I also did fieldwork with Cathy and Elena Centeno-Garcia (from UNAM-National University of Mexico) in Baja California, Mexico. This research is being used to test two opposing models for the growth of continents along convergent margins, specifically western Mexico.

After my 2005 summer field camp I was recognized as the top field geologist in the class and was nominated for the National Association of Geology Teachers/U.S. Geological Survey Cooperative Summer Geosciences Internship Program (NAGT/USGS). After applying for the internship, I have been hired as one of approximately 20 top students in the country to participate in the program. The job is set up through the Environmental Careers Organization (ECO) and will last for 15 weeks in the summer of 2006. I will assist with installing permanent seismic stations all over the U.S.A. as part of the U.S. Geological Survey's Advanced National Seismic System (ANSS) upgrade.
