General Research Interests

I have an affinity for field studies, so working with Cathy is a blessing. I would love to be a student for the rest of my life.   I am currently working to understand volcanology and petrology, as my background involves a quantitative understanding of the solid earth.  I was trained by a seismologist; now I’m anticipating my work as a field geologist.

Abbreviated Curriculum Vitae

Education:
University of California, Santa Barbara
Ph.D., Geological Sciences                                                                    anticipated, 2012

Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, GA
B.S., Earth and Atmospheric Sciences                         May 2007

Experience:

Undergraduate Researcher    Georgia Institute of Technology        May 2006 - May 2007
Researched Costa Rican seismology with Dr. Andrew Newman to understand subduction zone seismogenesis through a detailed interdisciplinary study of microseismicity and deformation across the region.  Worked to identify and locate seismic events over an eighteen month period recorded from a dense temporary seismic network.  Programmed to search for tremor.  Uncovering the onset of seismogenesis, which appears to concentrate along a narrow band between 14 to 22 km in depth along the interface.  Website: http://shadow.eas.gatech.edu/~anewman/research/costa_rica.html

Researcher                             QORE Property Sciences                  May - June 2007
Researched to complete Phase 1 Environmental Site Assessments.

Intern                                      MVA Scientific Consultants               May - Aug 2004
Worked in a mineralogy lab using transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and Infrared Spectroscopy to analyze particle size and chemical composition of various samples.

Field Experience:

Senior Design, Environmental Field Methods                                              Jan 2007 - May 2007
Employed postprocessed kinematic Global Positioning System (GPS) surveys and Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) at Skidaway Island to uncover the effect of urbanization in coastal environments.  Composed the 215 page report that compiled the whole class’s research.
